“Singer Shaunette Hildabrand delights her audience with her vocal attributes, stage presence, swing, and sheer charm.”  W. Royal Stokes (Author, Critic, Jazz Historian)

“One of the most notable vocalists of Classic Jazz. She enchants hers audience with fantastic songs, a moving voice and stunning naturalness.”(Presse, Lüdingshausen)

“One is probably too dulled by all the glossy, over the top casting shows to still enjoy the delicacy of such subtle singing. But once you listen, you’ll hear the casual precision with which Hildabrand makes her vocal entrances, the delicate vibrato that pleasantly roughens the lower tones; the relaxed freedom with which her voice resonates in the swinging framework of her fellow musicians. Now and then, she swings unrestrained, effortlessly floating through the high range,  revealing the sparkling energy that is also to be heard in her voice.” (Armin Knauer, Deutscher Journalist)

"The Frank Roberscheuten Hiptett has created a new two-CD set called FOUR SEASONS, and it’s a delight. I was tempted to call this post A BOX OF BEAUTY, ...read more" (Jazz Lives, June 2021)

Jazz Influences

Shaunette has long concentrated on Billie Holiday’s singing style and has achieved a remarkable proximity. This has taught her much: for one thing she has acquired a huge, diverse repertoire of fantastic songs far from all the clichés associated with female vocalists. In the meantime, however, she has freed herself from this powerful initial role model and just sings naturally in her own personal style, embracing influences from many other great vocalists. She has great swing, exquisite phrasing and taste, and sings immaculately.

Growing up with Jazz

"America’s loss is Europe’s gain, what with singer and Oklahoma native Shaunette Hildabrand settling in the Netherlands ... At Switzerland’s Jazz Ascona festival several years ago I noted how Hildabrand applied a convincing irony to “I Cried for You” and was delighted as she brought down the house with a gorgeous, old-worldly "Bei Mir Bist du Schön,” which stilled the crowd with its evocative overtones of passion."
From "Growing up with Jazz"(Oxford University Press) by W. Royal Stokes

Passionate Teacher

In addition to being the co-organizer of the annual Jazzin’ July Workshop in Leende, The Netherlands, she conducts the vocal classes. For the past 20 years, Shaunette has been the vocal instructor for the yearly International Classic Jazz Workshop in Ascona. Her alma mater has repeatedly invited her to give masterclasses for both jazz and classical singing and has recently awarded her with the Fain College of Fine Arts Distinguished Alumnus.
